Final FTR Rule Addresses Vehicle Use, Makes Technical Changes

The General Services Administration has issued a final rule that amends the Federal Travel Regulation by removing the privately-owned vehicle rates from FTR 301-10.303. The Office of Governmentwide Policy, Office of Travel, Transportation and Asset Management, will publish these rates on a periodic basis as FTR Bulletins and will post the rates on the Internet at http://www.gsa.gov/ftr. Also, the rule revises the reimbursement amount for travelers who are authorized to use a government-owned automobile for temporary duty travel and choose to use their privately-owned automobile instead. Finally, the rule updates the definition of "official station," clarifies various FTR provisions regarding temporary duty assignment and relocation travel, and makes grammatical corrections. A full list of the provisions affected by the rule appears in the regulation table below. The effective date of the rule is November 29, 2010, and it applies to official travel performed on or after December 29, 2010. For the text of the final rule, see ¶70,030.150.
