Part of our "What Are the Experts Saying?" webinar series for Wolters Kluwer customers, this complimentary 30-minute session has been specifically designed for the antitrust practitioners in your organization. Presented by Senior Legal Analyst Jeffrey May, J.D., it will include a discussion of how agencies such as the Department of Justice Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission have been involved in several recent high profile trials including merger challenges, criminal trials, and civil non-merger actions (such as the Apple e-books case) and how the trend toward litigation by these agencies has dispelled the notion among some antitrust practitioners that the government will generally settle to avoid litigation. Space is limited. Click here for full details and additional information.

Training Tip for IntelliConnect

How New Associates can Impress Partners in Large Law Firms

WK DAILY REPORTING SUITE—While it’s true that most major law firms have a portal that announces big news within the firm such as recent big cases won, etc., sometimes our WK DAILIES will even beat them to the punch. Also, a new associate may not be aware of the attorneys who made impressive headway in their practice area just before the new associate joined the firm. Encourage young associates to search the archives of the WK DAILIES to stay in the know with not just the case law that your firm is involved in, but also the professional, yet clear and concise, analysis of those cases.

  • Target the appropriate WK Daily Wrap-up database within the IntelliConnect Browse menu, see links below
  • Search for the firm name

Links for quick access to WK Daily Wrap-up databases:

NOTE:  Some news will be about new attorneys at your firm which, again, may be found on your portal’s news feed, but it may provide additional information that they may find useful about that new attorney.

TRACKER NEWS—New Associates can set up IntelliConnect TRACKER NEWS to find your firm’s name in any of the appropriate news features available here:

  • Go to Tracker News
  • Click here to create an initial Tracker search or click Add/Modify a Tracker
  • Click on the Customize (circular) button for the appropriate Tracker, i.e., Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Tracker within Securities (U.S.) blue bar
  • Make all appropriate customizations
  • Add firm name in “Custom Search Terms” in the lower left corner and also in title at top of Tracker
  • Click OK, scroll up and click ADD TRACKER

MONITORING BREAKING NEWS—Finally, and perhaps most important, young associates are often tasked with monitoring the news in a certain area of law, e.g., staying on top of Dodd-Frank related regulations. They can do three things to accomplish this:

  • Run a search through selected databases; Save the search; then re-run it with date restriction, e.g., after May 1, 2014
  • Set up Tracker News with “Custom Search Terms” as noted above
  • Set up one of their mobile devices with the appropriate WK Daily app customized for only that one topic. For instance, if they are monitoring Dodd-Frank and have an iPad or iPhone, they can download the WK Daily app on one of these two mobile devices and have it customized to give them only news appropriate to the topic needed. Direct them to the SETTINGS button on the App to customize.
