NYSE publications renamed on the CCH Internet Research Network

With the NYSE acquisition of the American Stock Exchange (to form NYSE Amex), all the NYSE, NYSE Arca and NYSE Amex materials have been consolidated under a CCH Internet Research NetWork blue-bar called NYSE Euronext.

CCH Blue Sky Law Reporter U.S.A. 2002 finding list reformatted and expanded

The chart of states adopting the Uniform Securities Act of 2002 is now more useful with the addition of the following: the Bill number and/or citation to the state Securities Act; the effective date of the state Securities Act; the number for the Report Letter in the CCH Blue Sky Reporter containing the story that summarizes each section of the state Securities Act as each section compares to its counterpart section in the Model Uniform Securities Act of 2002; and lastly, in the same column, the number for the Report Letter in the Blue Sky Reporter containing the story that summarizes any corresponding proposed or adopted rules and/or policy statements or administrative orders.

Loislaw enhancements—coming late July 2009

The Loislaw online research service is being enhanced to better suit the needs of large law firms. Loislaw will offer the following capabilities:

Multiple documents and search results—as well as results from a GlobalCite or Find Cases by Citation search—can all be printed, saved and e-mailed
Find Cases by Citation enhancement allows you to input multiple citations and pull cites from documents with both text and case cites (e.g., an adversary’s brief)
Smart Start Page is customized to show only products purchased by your firm
Find A Case Widget lets you search all Loislaw case law by citation, case name or keyword. Because the widget is installed within your firm’s portal, there’s no need to navigate to a Website, log in or select a database before searching.

Government Contracts Update free e-mail newsletter—coming Fall 2009

This monthly e-mail newsletter from the editors of CCH’s government contracts publications offers summaries of significant developments of the previous month. There will be coverage of hot topics, legal news, regulatory news and major contract awards.

SEC Enforcement Actions

SEC enforcement actions content is now available in a single easy-to-navigate database. Material is topically organized using a taxonomy developed by CCH securities editors (e.g., Broker-Dealers, Disclosure, Financial and Accounting Fraud, Hedge Funds, Investment Advisers, Litigation Procedure, Market Manipulation, Options Backdating, Proxies, Remedies). Within each of the 18 main topics, material is further sorted by sub-topic, document type and date. Cases that span multiple topics can be found under all the topic headings that are applicable. The topical organization makes the database easy to browse for cases on point and also enables targeted word searches.

The database contains more than 5,000 enforcement actions issued since January 2002 and is updated weekly. Categories of actions include Administrative Law Judge Decisions, Commission Opinions, Initial Decisions, Litigation Releases, and Federal Court Cases. Additional materials include interpretative guidance such as the SEC Staff Enforcement Manual, found under the “Agency Publications” topic.

How can I limit the amount of subscription content available when searching 'all content' or browsing?

Use Practice Areas (access from the top right menu commands) to choose which content you would like to have included when searching 'all content' or browsing within IntelliConnect. Any content associated with unselected Practice Areas will be hidden from view and unavailable when searching or browsing.

Quick Tip for Loislaw

How should I format a search when I'm looking for a proper name, such as in a case title?

When searching for proper names, use NEAR3 as connector to force terms to occur within 3 words of each other. Proper names, such as the names of appellants or judges, or the names of buildings and landmarks, often appear inconsistently in the law. For example, some jurisdictions use middle initials in reference to judges, whereas others use the judges' full names. To cover the range of options, use the 'near' connector when searching for names.

For example:

Type: william near3 johnson to find 'william' within 3 terms of 'johnson' to locate occurences such as "William P. Johnson," "William Paul Johnson," "Johnson, William P.,".
If a jurisdiction used just the first and middle initials, for example, W. P. Johnson, then type: W near3 P near3 Johnson.
To combine the two above searches, type: (William or W) near3 (Paul or P) near3 Johnson.

The NEAR connector can also be a short cut when looking for multiple names in a case name. For example, the case, Texas Teachers Assn. v. Garland School Dist., can be retrieved by searching in case name for: teachers near garland.
